I'm always ready to support my community, especially soul food restaurants. This was my first time here, and I was not impressed. I would definitely not go back. The yams reminded me of store canned yams with added vanilla flavor. My baked chicken was too dry (overcooked). I was hoping to get real skillet cornbread, but got something tooo sweet. My husband went to a culinary school and he was very disappointed. My first and last visit.

I really wanted to like this place because I was craving soul food, and when I walked in, the food smelled good. Unfortunately, the experience went downhill quickly. I noticed flies flying around the food area, which immediately concerned me, even though the door was open. The young lady taking my order wasn’t dirty, but she didn’t look very presentable for someone greeting customers and handling the front of a restaurant, and first impressions matter. I ordered baked chicken, green beans with potatoes, black-eyed peas, and a side of ribs. I was also surprised to learn that cornbread does NOT come with a soul food dinner and costs $1 per piece—I’m 54 years old and have never ordered a soul food meal where at least one piece of cornbread wasn’t included. The biggest problem, however, was the food. When I bit into the baked chicken, the inside tasted sour, like it had been sitting too long. I tried the ribs next, and they tasted even worse—the unpleasant taste came through even with the barbecue sauce. I was completely disgusted and concerned about how the food may be stored or held. I returned to the restaurant and they did refund my money, which I appreciate, but based on this expe

Listen I have been coming to this location since they opened. Their food is normally excellent. Lately, it has been subpar. What is my final straw is the greens being too salty. It has accord 2 or so times and at this point something is not right. I’ve never seen greens cook this much down that the shredded with a fork. But more so the salty taste is ridiculous, like they used salt to cover up something. Service is always good (when they answer the phone) I recommend all their dishes but the greens. I can’t even eat them nor feed this to my kids.

Lape is not what it used to be. It's fair and I go maybe once a quarter. Lately, the macaroni hasn't been worth the calories. The chicken is good. The greens are OK.

I finally stopped in today, and here’s my honest review: • Customer Service: — I was greeted so nicely. The cashier was very friendly, and service was prompt. • Food Quality: Hot, fresh, and the portions are huge! Definitely enough to feed two people. Here’s what I ordered: rib tips, yams, collard greens, and cornbread dressing with gravy. • Rib Tips: Tender, but could use more flavor.. the sauce saved it, but I’d rate them a 6/10. Still enjoyable! • Collard Greens: Packed with flavor and tender, but I like to see some meat in mines 8/10. • Yams: On the basic side, but I love yams, so I didn’t mind. Sweet, not overly so, though I personally like them dripping in cinnamon-sugar sauce. Still, solid 8/10. It had like a sweet aftertaste 😊 • Cornbread Dressing: 10/10 — hands down the star of the plate. Perfectly moist and seasoned. Haven’t had dressing this good in a long time! Overall, this was a really good experience. I’ll definitely be back, and I recommend this spot if you’re looking for hearty portions and great flavor.
